PAINTINGS

These works are constructed through a process of continuous line, each image emerging from a single unbroken path that moves across the surface until the composition resolves. What begins as a simple constraint quickly becomes something more complex. The line must continually adapt, finding its way through the image while maintaining its continuity, transforming the act of drawing into a process of discovery as much as construction.

The practice began out of necessity, during periods when photography became inaccessible, whether through circumstance, cost, or opportunity, drawing offered a way to continue making work. What started as a practical solution gradually evolved into a language of its own, one that has remained present throughout the years even as other parts of my practice expanded and changed.

The subjects shift between people, animals, flowers, and everyday scenes, but the underlying approach remains consistent. I am interested less in symbolic meaning than in the relationship between line, colour, and recognition, and how an image can emerge from simplicity while retaining a sense of complexity beneath the surface. The paintings often appear immediate and approachable, yet closer attention reveals the structure holding them together.

Colour plays an equally important role. The work deliberately embraces brightness, playfulness, and familiarity. While many of the paintings have been created during periods of uncertainty or personal difficulty, those conditions are rarely visible within the images themselves. Rather than documenting those experiences directly, the work moves in another direction, towards images that remain open, accessible, and visually generous.

Over time, the continuous line has become more than a process. It has become a way of seeing. Each painting begins with an image, but the final composition is discovered through the act of making, as the line slowly reveals a path from one part of the image to the next. What remains is a balance between structure and intuition, where a single uninterrupted gesture becomes capable of holding an entire world.
